Died on a Leap Year

It's a rare thing, to die on February 29. Not that you'd care...you're dead after all!

But who has died on this auspicious date? We can easily find out by looking at Living or Dead's Celebrities Died on February 29 page. (You can check all sorts of dates on their celebs died on a date page).

So who made this list?

The most famous seems to be Davy Jones in 2012. We can see his Monkees bandmates are all living (at the time of writing).

The rest of the short list are made up of old football and baseball players. And I mean OOOOLD! Rudy the Rifle Bukich was born in 1920 and passed in 2016 at 85 years old. I don't think anyone reading this blog will remember seeing Ernie Courtney (he passed in 1920). But it's great that the information is all there for us to pore over.

It hits us in the guts. Someone we never met, who we only knew through media dies. We are shocked. We mourn the loss more than a grandparent.

But then it turns out to be a hoax and we celebrate! Woohoo! We get to feel the loss all over again some time in the future!

There's a few sites out there dedicated to tracking celebrity deaths but none are so thorough or simple to use as Living or Dead. In fact, all the others look like 90's web relics and they only have a fraction of the content of Living or Dead.
